Dr Ian James MA BChD MFGDP(UK)
(University of Leeds, UK, 1993) MFGDP(UK) (Royal College of Surgeons of England). GDC Registration Number 69610.
Ian qualified from the University of Leeds in 1993 and has a post graduate dental qualification. As such he is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeon’s Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK). Ian and Suzy took over Whyman House Dental Practice in 2012 and since then have grown the practice through a reputation of caring dentistry in a professional, but relaxed environment. Ian and Suzy are proud that their Practice is family owned and run, as it maximises the opportunity to put patients care at the centre of everything they do.
Prior to Whyman House, Ian was a Dental Officer in the Royal Navy and ‘retired’ in 2012 as a Surgeon Commander. He had an extremely varied career which included deployments to the Persian Gulf in HM Ships Manchester and Gloucester, 3 years at Taunton’s 40 Commando Royal Marines and was the Senior Dental Surgeon at both the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines and lastly at the Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovilton. He also deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, the later of which was in 2010-11, where he was the Deputy Medical Commander for all Coalition Forces throughout Afghanistan.
Away from dentistry Ian is a keen, but very amateur cyclist and has cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End for charity. He is a member of both the Somerset RC Triathlon Club and Taunton and Pickeridge Gold Club and still occasionally wields a hockey stick.
