Dr Ian James MA BChD MFGDP(UK)

Ian ProfileIan qualified from the University of Leeds in 1993 and has a post graduate dental qualification. As such he is a Member of the Royal College of Surgeon’s Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (UK).  Ian and Suzy took over Whyman House Dental Practice in 2012 and since then have grown the practice through a reputation of caring dentistry in a professional, but relaxed environment. Ian and Suzy are proud that their Practice is family owned and run, as it maximises the opportunity to put patients care at the centre of everything they do.

Prior to Whyman House, Ian was a Dental Officer in the Royal Navy and ‘retired’ in 2012 as a Surgeon Commander.  He had an extremely varied career which included deployments to the Persian Gulf in HM Ships Manchester and Gloucester, 3 years at Taunton’s 40 Commando Royal Marines and was the Senior Dental Surgeon at both the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines and lastly at the Royal Naval Air Station, Yeovilton.  He also deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, the later of which was in 2010-11, where he was the Deputy Medical Commander for all Coalition Forces throughout Afghanistan.

Away from dentistry Ian is a keen, but very amateur cyclist and has cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End for charity. He is a member of both the Somerset RC Triathlon Club and Taunton and Pickeridge Gold Club and still occasionally wields a hockey stick.

Dr Suzy James BChD

Suzy qualified from the University of Leeds in 1993 and then undertook vocational dental training at a family practice in Sandbach, Cheshire.

She moved to Taunton in 1997 and worked at North Petherton Dental Practice and Shepton Mallet for 7 years. She then moved to Yarde House Dental Practice in Taunton and practised there for 8 years.

Suzy has a family ethos to her dentistry and has many generations of families under her care.  In addition to general dentistry, Suzy has a special interest in making dentures, both partial and full. She is very experienced in this area.

Suzy enjoys cooking, gardening, pilates, learning to play golf (unsuccessfully) and travelling. Suzy and Ian have 2 children, Tom and Maddie.

Dr Daniella ‘Dani’ Jones BDS (2010)

Daniella ‘Dani’ qualified from Bristol Dental Hospital in 2010. In the ensuing 11 years she has undertaken many postgraduate qualifications in general practice, most recently having undertaken the post-graduate diploma in Implantology from the Royal College of Surgeons. She has also undertaken several years of service as a speciality doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. She continues this role at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. Dani has a specialist interest in Oral surgery and will be offering the full range of General Practice services to her patients as well as Implants, Oral Surgery, and cosmetic dentistry.

Dani will work half the week at Whyman House Dental Practice and the other half in the hospital setting.

Dani lives in Somerset with her family and 2 cats. In her spare time, she has a passion for keeping fit and spends most Sundays pottering in the garden.

Karen Bellis. Dental Hygienist and Therapist

Karen

Karen qualified from Bristol in 2009 as a dental therapist and dental hygienist.

Karen works both in practice, community and also teaches dental nurses an extended duty course on fluoride application.

She has produced a Mencap fact sheet for people with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PLMD) and their oral health.

Karen particularly enjoys treating dental phobic patients.

In her limited spare time she enjoys the gym, dog walking and spending time with her family.

Bev Hudson. Dental Nurse

Bev has been back at Whyman House since 2014, having worked for the previous owner between 2006-2011, she generally works with Ian and Karen and with Sarah on Wednesdays.

Bev is very calming and hence is good with patients, especially nervous ones.

Kate Liscombe. Receptionist

Kate LiscombeKate is our very experienced and professional receptionist. Nothing will be too much trouble for her and she will deal with your enquires to the highest standard.  Kate has been at Whyman House Dental Practice since 2010 and knows all the patients personally.

Lotte Yarde. Dental Nurse

Lotte joined the practice in 2015. She qualified as a dental nurse in 2012 and has qualifications in dental radiography and fluoride application.

Lotte primarily nurses for Suzy 2 days a week and works on reception on a Friday afternoon.

Lotte works part-time as she has a young son. She enjoys socialising and spending time with her large extended family.
